Storyboard That!
We often ask our students to demonstrate their learning with tasks like these:
- Show me what this vocabulary word means.
- Explain a symbol in this chapter.
- Map this character’s traits.
For emerging writers, for English language learners, for students with special needs, this can be a challenge. Visual learners might like to sketch things out first. Even fluent writers will appreciate a change now and then. For all of them, and for teachers, Storyboard That! provides an effective learning tool for development of literacy skills.
Instead of words in paragraphs, Storyboard That! supports images in frames. Students produce narratives, persuasion, and/or analytical thinking using a visual literacy instead of a text-based one. Students could respond to a question in an anticipation guide or work though a think-pair-share activity on a tablet. They could produce a quick outline or make a text-to-life connection quickly.
Storyboard That! is also a good teaching tool. Adding a visual component to a presentation allows the teacher to emphasize a point or to explain a process more easily. Storyboard That! supports slide presentations from within the application – no export to another app needed! It’s also compatible with learning management platforms like Edmodo.
